About WMYT FOX46

In 1974, the UHF channel 55 allocation in Rock Hill, South Carolina was occupied by W55AA, a low-powered repeater of South Carolina Educational Television, a member network of PBS. On January 3, 1978, SCETV programming moved to the full-powered WNSC-TV on channel 30.

The current station on channel 55, WFVT, began operation on October 21, 1994 as an independent station owned by Indiana-based Family 55. At the time, WFVT entered into a local marketing agreement with Capitol Broadcasting Company, the owner of WJZY. Under this agreement, WJZY bought the entire broadcast day of WFVT and filled the schedule with mostly syndicated programs that WJZY did not have time to air.

When The WB Television Network launched on January 11, 1995, WFVT became a charter affiliate and changed its on-air branding from "TV55" to "WB55." Just five days later, on January 16, WJZY joined the United Paramount Network (UPN). In February of that year, WFVT was added to most Charlotte area cable systems, including Time Warner Cable channel 17 in the city of Charlotte, which had previously been held by The Disney Channel. To promote the switch, WFVT ran ads in local newspapers featuring Bugs Bunny pulling off a pair of Mickey Mouse ears and encouraging viewers to re-program their TVs and VCRs to ensure they did not think "some rodent still lives there."

About WMBF

WMBF-TV, a television station in the Florence/Myrtle Beach, South Carolina market, was constructed by Raycom Media in late 2007. It was the first and only station built by the company, which inherited the construction permit for the station through its merger with Liberty Corporation, the owner of WIS in Columbia. The virtual station had been operating in the market since the 1990s. On July 2008, WMBF-TV began testing with a station ID slide and officially signed on on August 7 at 11:59 p.m. The following day, NBC welcomed the station on-air on various programs such as Today, NBC Nightly News, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. The launch of WMBF-TV coincided with the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Prior to WMBF-TV's launch, the Florence/Myrtle Beach market was one of the few remaining areas on the East Coast without its own NBC affiliate and was also one of the few markets in the country without full service from the three legacy networks. WECT in Wilmington, North Carolina, had served as the default NBC affiliate for Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand, and had been available on cable in the Grand Strand since the arrival of cable in the 1970s. WIS, on the other hand, had served as the default affiliate for Florence and the Pee Dee, but had been picked up by most cable systems in the Grand Strand by the mid-1980s.

About WIS 10

WIS-TV originally operated as a CBS affiliate, with a secondary affiliation with ABC. In the late 1950s, it also carried programming from the NTA Film Network. In the late 1970s, WIS-TV's parent company, Liberty Life Insurance, decided to get out of the broadcasting business. The company sold the station to the Noon Broadcasting Company in 1979. In 1997, Noon Broadcasting merged with Media General, who owned the state's other CBS affiliate, WCBD-TV in Charleston. The two stations entered into a local marketing agreement and shared some resources, with WCBD-TV serving as the senior partner. In 2002, WIS-TV became the market's sole CBS affiliate when WCBD-TV switched its affiliation to NBC.

Over the years, WIS-TV has been involved in various community and public service initiatives. In the 1970s, the station launched a campaign to provide free smoke detectors to area residents. In the 1980s, it began a program to provide free school supplies to local students. In the 1990s, WIS-TV launched a program to provide free dictionaries to area third graders. In the 2000s, the station began a program to provide free eye exams and eyeglasses to local students in need. WIS-TV has also been involved in various charitable efforts, including fund raising for the American Cancer Society and the United Way.

About WCBD 2

WCBD-TV, the NBC affiliate in Charleston, South Carolina, signed on the air on September 25, 1954 as WUSN-TV. The station was originally owned by Drayton Hastie and aired an analog signal on VHF channel 2. It was initially an NBC affiliate with a secondary ABC affiliation, but became a full-time ABC affiliate in 1962 when WCIV signed on and took the NBC affiliation. In 1971, the station was sold to State Telecasting Company and adopted its current call letters, WCBD, which stands for Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties, the three counties in the Charleston metropolitan area. In 1983, Media General bought the station from State Telecasting and it remained the market's ABC affiliate until 1996, when it swapped affiliations with WCIV and became an NBC affiliate again as part of an affiliation deal between ABC and WCIV's owner, Allbritton Communications.

During the late 1950s, WCBD was also briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network. The station is known for its strong local news coverage and has won numerous awards for its reporting. In addition to its main studios in Charleston, WCBD operates a bureau in the nearby city of Georgetown.
